馬航班機可能折返，墜毀半島西側

馬來西亞軍方9日表示，據軍方雷達顯示，失聯的馬航班機可能中途折返，並墜落到馬來半島西邊的海上；馬來西亞當局已將飛機搜尋範圍擴大到馬來半島西部海域。

馬來西亞國防部長胡先9日表示，該架班機可能已經墜落到馬來半島西邊的海上，「我們正在調查班機折返的可能性」；但他並未說明飛機究竟是因為機件原因還是遭人劫持才折返，也未表示國防部為何會懷疑飛機折返。

馬來西亞空軍司令達烏德也指出，軍方雷達顯示該班機在墜毀前已先行折返馬來西亞，但他並未說明飛機改變航道時可能飛往的方向，及之後又飛了多久。他在記者會上指出，「軍方雷達顯示飛機已經折返，一些民航雷達也已部分證實此事。」

但馬航執行長阿瑪德表示，如果飛機要折返，飛行員應該會通知公司及航管單位；「我們並未收到飛機發出的遇難訊號，所以我們同樣感到迷惑」。
