菲律賓忠犬卡邦二○一一年奮不顧身救了兩個女孩，自己卻被機車撞上，削去半張臉，失去了口鼻及上顎。卡邦獲各界捐款赴美醫治八個月，雖未整型成功但治癒癌症和心絲蟲病。牠八日返抵菲國，受到英雄式的歡迎。

雜種狗卡邦八日抵達馬尼拉機場，牠猛搖尾巴回應大批媒體與民眾的歡迎。

兩年前當時兩歲且懷有身孕的卡邦以肉身阻擋機車，保護飼主的女兒和姪女免於受傷。卡邦的事蹟傳出後，線上募款網站募得來自四十五國的兩萬七千多美元（約台幣八十萬元），讓牠到美國加州戴維斯大學獸醫院治療。

照顧員里姆說，卡邦能用僅剩的兩顆臼齒咀嚼食物，也能分辨主人和照顧員的氣味。里姆說，卡邦已成為「大愛」的象徵，三寶顏市九日將以遊行歡迎卡邦回家。
